In addition to the three corporate buildings at California Plaza, we'd like to take a moment to acknowledge our major corporate sponsors from last season. Without their support, our free performing arts programs would not be possible. City National Bank Black Equities Group Cornerstone OnDemand Ralphs / Food For Less Sony Pictures Entertainment, Inc. Union Bank US Bank Wells Fargo Foundation For more information about various sponsorship levels and how your company can get involved in supporting the upcoming 2014 season, please contact Jose in the development office at 213-687-2491 or jhernandez@grandperformances.org. Our WaterCourt Stage is dark for a few more months, but our Executive Director, Michael Alexander, is still getting his arts fix. Fatoumata Diawara at the Broad Stage on February 28 and The Paul Dresher Ensemble at CAP-UCLA on March 1 are just a few shows on his radar, so don't be surprised to see him around town (or be too shy to say "hi!"). Last month, our community suffered a true loss with the death of Carmen Zapata, founder of the Bilingual Foundation for the Arts (BFA). She was 86. Over the years, Grand Performances collaborated with BFA a number of times (most recently 2013's production of Lorca, Child of the Moon) to give our audience an opportunity to learn about zarzuela and the other classical Hispanic theatrical traditions Carmen and her organization championed. Headquartered at the old Lincoln Heights jail, BFA is located in an area easily accessible to audiences who want to see plays in both Spanish and English. An accomplished film and television actress, her devotion to community always came first to Carmen. She will be missed. You can learn more about her life here. |
