The first thing Cherie hung on the wall of her new apartment was a frame containing photos of her husband with her and their family. Her husband sadly passed away a few years ago.
"For it to be home, there has to be family," she said.
After his death, Cherie fell on hard times. She spent years in and out of shelters, dealing with chronic illnesses, and struggling to get back on her feet before PATH helped her move into her new home.
Her apartment gives Cherie a sense of freedom and security that she didn't have before. She can keep her little dog, Charlie, with her, and has a place her children and grandchildren can safely visit.
At 62, she's unable to do much walking, but she loves to spend time playing World of Warcraft on her computer. Her avatar is a feisty level 90 gnome mage named Tikka.
Best of all, her husband's photo has a permanent place so he can always watch over her.
"I like living in La Kretz Villas because it gives me a sense of home."
